Meet The Woman Behind The Business
In honor of Women's History Month, we collaborated with four women-owned businesses in the local Reno-Tahoe area. Learn more about their story and what empowered them to begin their entrepreneurial journey.
Originally from Nevada, Yasmeen Lopez now resides in San Antonio Texas as an online fitness trainer and nutrition coach.
What empowered you to create your business?
“Within the fitness and nutrition space there are loads of conflicting information. There are some things within the industry that I do not agree with, and in order to share my beliefs, knowledge, and experience I established my business. I practice what I preach and I truly believe in what I do. I will always strive to provide forward thinking and use the most beneficial sources. Establishing my own business allows me to have freedom and not follow someone else's agenda or trends. I want to be able to help people find a healthy balance in life, so that they are able to thrive long term.” - Yasmeen Lopez
What empowered you to create your business?
“I started my own business because I saw a need in the swimwear industry to create flattering and rad swimwear for all body types. The industry had a huge gap in it and Strange Bikinis was the answer.” - Ali Conway
Allyson Bitz is a lifestyle & family photographer based out of Reno, Nevada.
What empowered you to create your business?
"My connection with people. I have always felt a deep connection to the people I meet and this creative outlet allows me to meet people from all over. Getting to document the biggest (and smallest) moments in someone’s life is something that just feels so personal and keeps me constantly inspired." - Allyson Bitz
Brit Tincup is a Reno local and the owner of Haven + Flux. Haven and Flux is an intentional luxury coconut soy candle line designed to improve mental health and the mental health of someone in need.
What empowered you to create your business?
“Haven and Flux was started with the desire to create a really minimal and exceptional candle. As we grew, we dedicated our mission to raising awareness around Mental Health. We pride ourselves on being an intentional brand designed to improve your mental health and the mental health of someone in need. Each intention comes with a Spotify playlist pairing and Pinterest Pep Talk that can help set or change the customer's mood. In addition, we donate $1 to Mental Health America for every product sold. I've only ever wanted to empower people to feel and do good, my hope is that Haven and Flux can be the spark that people need.” - Brit Tincup
